In 2022 I had the opportunity to visit Katmai National Park, Alaska. Katmai is home to Brooks Falls, the most famous 6 foot waterfall in the world… this is the place where the salmon congregate during the annual spawn, and where the brown bears come to feast. During the summer salmon run, the the Brooks River near Brooks Falls boasts the largest concentration of brown bears on earth. You’ve undoubtedly seen Brooks Falls in a nature documentary or in images from countless wildlife and nature photographers. It was a bucket list destination for me. I took around 8000 photos, including a few that have been very popular (“Beach Day” with #94 and her quads, and “King of Katmai” as a portrait of Otis #480, the “godfather” of Brooks Falls bears both come to mind). I had an incredible few days on the river. This is a small selection of the photos I came home with. These photos are “clickable”… each is linked to a page with a larger version and a description.
