Four cubs is very rare in the world of bears. This mother, known as bear 94 by Katmai National Park biologists, managed to bring 4 little ones into the world for the summer of 2022. I had the good fortune of catching them in this moment on the shore of Naknek Lake, looking like they were having a family outing. Sadly (but statistically almost guaranteed), only two of these little guys survived their first year. It was a pleasure to be able to see the whole family while it was still complete. This has proven to be one of my most popular images.
