This red fox treated me to a very fun encounter in Yellowstone, on what is called the Blacktail Plateau just outside of Lamar Valley. I saw it from the road, and seeing the general direction it was heading, I got way ahead of it using the road, and then walked a short way into the area I assumed it would come through. It was hunting its way through the area, stopping to listen for rodents occasionally, and when it got to my area it saw me, but didn’t change it’s routine at all. It passed by fairly close, with a few stops to listen and occasionally look my way.
