Lassen Pack Wolf

This camera trap image is one of the first high resolution close-up images of a gray wolf ever taken in California. The image that put my photography on the map for many, this surreal image shows a wolf of the Lassen Pack emerging from the destruction of the Dixie Fire, one of the biggest wildfires in California history. The two elements converging here (the reintroduction of wolves, and the era of mega-destructive forest fires), make this a picture that captures a pivotal moment in California history. A finalist for California Wildlife Photo of the Year in 2022, it has been widely shared and used by many publications and agencies, including the Center for Biological Diversity and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
