Highway 395

Displayed in the gallery at 30x20 on archival varnished canvas

The “Eastern Sierra Highway” has quite a fan club. Running from Canada to Mexico, Highway 395 runs north and south along the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountains for a bulk of the California portion, and when folks (especially Southern California folks) have a “the mountains are calling and I must go,” moment, this is the road that takes them there. Looking south here (obviously, because of the visible Milky Way), this shot was one that I envisioned for a long time before I found the right spot to get it. The road had to be pointing southwest enough to line up with the Milky Way, and there had to be a “395” sign along that stretch of road. A rare combo it turns out. The red lights are from a lone semi heading south at 3:00am.
